What's being caught
WHATS BEING CAUGHT 2023 lots of F1’s carp and silvers on most methods
PEBBLE POOL
Pebble is known as one of the match pools – pebble is fishing very well at the moment with newly stocked F1’s showing good signs of growth and weight building nets.
Pole – waggler – feeder methods all are working but pole rules at the moment with pellets slapping in the warmer months, maggots, pellets & meat all showing to be the best baits to bag up on and paste is providing good results too. The Barbel are showing fantastic signs of doing well with many being caught up to and over the 3lb mark now and the chub up to and over the 1lb mark, skimmers and roach to the same size, there are some nice F1’s showing up to and over 2.5 lb with carp over the 5lb plus in the pool.
Steady feeding will and should keep them coming through your session and in the warmer months fishing at half depth is proving to be a good tactic along with dead depth with light rigs – 18 to 16 hooks will provide the best results and number 8 hollow to 12 hollow should do the trick to manage the odd beast that might show up, slapping shallow at 12 inches or less will win matches in the summer.
A great pool to fish if you enjoy speed fishing and building weights up through your session some nice match weights coming from the pool now with average bags of 100lb plus being the norm.
Plenty of winter F1’s are being caught along with the freshly stocked Barbel, Hyde, Chub, Roach and Skimmers.
HIGHLAND POOL
As per pebble pool Highland is a match pool and being larger than pebble Highland is producing some great match weights and is slowly coming into its own. I have been viewing regular 2.5lb to 4.5lb F1’s and if you can hold them then there are great things to come from this pool – bags over 60 / 100 lb are common in the matches and the Barble and chub are certainly packing the punch, another season and these will be great match builders – 2019 will produce match wins of 200lb plus.
Constant little and often feeding will keep them coming with the pole being the best method at 11 to 16 meters and the margins produce well later in the day, the method fishes well with micro pellets and 4 mm to 6 mm baits showing to be the most common used – size 18 to 16 hooks with elastics from 8 hollow to 12 hollow being preferred sizes used by most with pulla kits – corner pegs 13 I would beef up the tackle a little as the carp take you straight into the reeds if you can’t hold them.
200lb bags are already showing from Highland – some proper F1’s in here to be had with the odd lump to catch you out, watch out for some of the barble they are becoming stunners in this pool, I have seen Barble already around the 3lb mark in 2018 and some great sized chub.
The same as PEBBLE with the freshly stocked silvers all to be had with great winter and summer sport for 2018.
SPRING POOL
Spring has been fishing really well on the pole throughout the summer months with excellent bags of F1’s, common carp from 5 lb to 15 lb, mirror carp from 3 lb to in excess of 15 lb some nice skimmer bream and tench to be had, the barbel are pulling hard now they are growing, cracking little chub and some nice roach, I have witnessed 3 carp up to the 20 lb mark in the last 3 weeks and of course one was mine, a lovely Fully scaled mirror taken on the meat – dead depth at 11 meters.
Now freshly stocked with more F1’s, Ide. Barbel, Chub, Roach and skimmers these fish have really taken and there are plenty being caught on the top four pole sections and at longer 11 meters to 13 meters lengths, also some nice crucian carp can be caught down the margins.
Baits such as maggot – corn – soft pellets – castors and chopped worm are all still working along with waggler fished maggot and straight lead to the middle.
One of my best seasons this year on this pool with over 4 bags topping the ton and I am no match man just a pleasure fisherman.
WILLOW POOL
Willow has been fishing really well on the pole throughout the summer months with excellent bags of F1’s, common carp from 5 lb to 15 lb, mirror carp from 3 lb to in excess of 15 lb some nice skimmer bream and tench to be had, the barbel are pulling hard now they are growing, cracking little chub and some nice roach. The Ghost carp are stunning and run well in excess of 10 lb plus.
Now freshly stocked with more F1’s, Ide, Barbel, Chub, Roach and skimmers these fish have really taken and there are plenty being caught on the top four pole sections and at longer 11 meters to 13 meters lengths.
Baits such as maggot – corn – soft pellets – castors and chopped worm are all still working along with waggler fished maggot and straight lead to the middle, harder pellets rule in the summer months.
The end pegs can produce some nice bags if you get it right and there are some nice sized carp in this pool in excess of 15 lb + with the odd ghost carp that catches you out.
ABBEY POOL
Abbey has some great Ghost carp – mirror carp and commons, there are crucian carp and tench now topping the 5 lb + mark, freshly stocked F1’s with Ide, Barbel, Chub, skimmers, Roach and if you can get in to them some nice Bream over 6 lb which tend to show down the bottom end of the pool in the winter months around 11 meters out, there are some beasts in this pool…
Fishing close to the far bank produces great bags in the summer chucking the method – straight lead – waggler. look out for pegs 4 to 11 on method against the far bank but ensure you hang on to the rod.
Pellets – maggot – corn – casters and worm along with 6 mm meat all produce well at different times of the year, the Ghost carp can be a real thrill throughout the summer and the mirror and commons are showing all year round.
Being one of the larger pools you have the freedom to fish off the banks under your feet or fish away from them to chuck up against which proves to be the best in catch rates.
Great mixed pool.
SWAN POOL
Great mixed pool with plenty of carp in, tench, bream, Ide. chub, barbel, Ghost carp, skimmers and roach and a nice head of F1’s – I have seen and caught bags in excess of the 100 lb out of this pool this season with some stunning mirror and commons.
Reacts well to pole fished methods but the fish can be weary so as light as you can but enough to land the lumps when they show, dotted down floats as the slightest touch and the fish can be on. Good results on the waggler 2 or 3 BB with a few number 11 droppers and the small pellet feeder little and often chucks.
Great thing about this pool is when your float goes under you never know what you are going to have next – fantastic margin fishing when they are having it, and wise to have a peg or two between you when fishing this pool, some donkeys in the pool so expect the unexpected.
LOWLAND POOL
As per all the other pools a great mixed variety of fish to be caught, the Ghost carp in this pool can be frantic on good days and your arm can ache, some really nice mirrors , tench, commons and silvers and the freshly stocked chub, barbel and Ide. means on the right day your float wont stop going under.
They tend to like the smaller baits nothing too huge but that is only my experience of the pool, you can do well by chucking a lead or small feeder to the opposite bank under a peg not being fished.
Fish tend to feed well at the 9 meter distance and closer throughout the day, pellets and meat and for some reason I tend to find they enjoy a little red pellet on this pool.
PARK POOL
Once again freshly stocked in December 17 with F1’s, Ide, Barbel, Chub, Skimmers, Roach and Bream – the pool is one of the larger ones and sometimes takes a while to draw the fish in, once you do though it can be non stop. Some huge Ghost carp, mirrors and commons in this pool which really test your tackle, the freshly stocked fish are enjoying it this pool, some great bags coming out now in 2017 a remarkable difference.
Little and often feeding and all distances produce so one that you are comfortable with, a good pool for getting out of the wind on and the barbel are getting a good size now and will be well worth fishing for in the summer 2017 – like most pools there are some crackers in this pool if you hit on to them.
Fisherman tend to fish the middle and ends but some huge fish are caught in the corners down the margin tight up against the bank, where you fish last sometimes produces. feeder to the far bank, pole and waggler.
ISLAND POOL
A nice new stock of Barbel, Chub, Ide, F1’s, Skimmers and roach to top up on the already well presented pool, there is a lovely island to chuck against with some cracking carp in also some nice large perch to be caught.
There are also a good head of small / large perch in this pool which are caught down the margins but are soon pushed out of the way by larger fish once you start building the peg.
I was watching a regular lad down there the other day (March 17) and he was having a fish a chuck and some of the Barbel he was having was like little rockets, I thought they were decent carp – only touching around the 1 lb mark but he was having some fun taking the number 10 elastic out, then he hit a 10 lb mirror wow…..
Margin pole fishing in the summer and any distance between the margin to the island can produce, red maggot does well on this pool but pellet also dominates in the summer.
NOTES
Just a few tips that may come in useful, lines that are too heavy will not produce too many fish and stupid size hooks fish are very weary of and bailiffs are doing regular checks to ensure the fish are caught well and not dragged in causing harm to the fish.
Feeding little and often produces the best results, just getting there and throwing in loads of bait will not get you good results, build the swim and you will catch all day long.
All the pools are fishing very well, Pole – waggler – feeder methods all are working.
REMEMBER NO BOILIES YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED……..
Enjoy your fishing and we look forward to seeing you on the pools where there will always be a bailiff or regular there to help and point you in the right direction…. ENJOY……and see you down there.
